Description
The Channel House: Few homes in the world are as unusual and magical. Set in 2 acres of mature tropical gardens and a mere 20 yards from the turquoise waters of the beach, this house was one of the first on Providenciales. It was built in the traditional Bermudian style on a raised platform some 12 ft above the natural ground level, catching sea breezes all year round, and allowing superb views over the waters of Leeward Going Through Channel.
The impression of living in a tree house is accentuated by an enclosed covered verandah which wraps around the entire house; fully netted, it lets the breeze in and keeps the bugs out. This is a natural and effective air conditioning system, allowing occupants to live and sleep in comfort, with open windows and doors. The two downstairs en suite bedrooms are fitted with air conditioning units.
Wave action is gentle in the Channel, and this together with the long stretch of unspoilt and unpopulated white sand, make this beach ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The ocean hits the shore 700 yards to the north outside the Channel and it is possible to walk on until eventually arriving at Grace Bay.
The house is within two minutes drive of the Leeward Marina. Here the guest will find fishing trips to suit every level: Deep Water fishing, Bottom or Bone fishing are all world class. Trips also leave from here to explore the other islands; a lovely day out is to visit Middle Caicos and its caves, once home to the islands' earliest inhabitants, the Taino Indians. The famous Gilleys Restaurant is also situated here, they serve the best fish sandwiches on island and also deliver takeaways to the house.
A five minute car journey takes the visitor to the Golf Club. Here you can get daily membership which allows use of the course and also of the tennis courts. Further along the road at Ports of Call there is a gym which offers a similar facility. A wide variety of restaurants are nearby.
Guests are met at the airport and taken to the house where they are familiarized with the property. Our on-island agent is always available to answer any queries or to help book any trips or outings. |
